Madisyn Pelan, 9, of Leigh gets acquainted with Digger, a 30-year-old registered Appaloosa being exhibited by first-year exhibitor Olivia Hrouda at the Colfax County Fair under way in Leigh through Sunday. Digger is among equine entries being stalled in new housing at the fairgrounds. The two old horse barns — with total 20 stalls — were moved to the west, with four new barns — with 20 total stalls — constructed and butted together as one facility. The relocation and new barn projects totaled about $64,000, said agricultural society officials. Previously, about a third of the fair’s equine entries had to be housed in the cattle barn, they said.
