Piles of nails lay like pick-up sticks where the horse barn at the Keya Paha County Fairgrounds once stood. The horse barn was the only structure on the fairgrounds in Norden that was lost in the fire.

Flames lapped at the wooden seats and stairs of the bleachers that surround the Keya Paha County Fairground's rodeo arena in Norden. The fire burned off the edges and hot embers left holes in of some of the bleacher seats at the arena.

Keya Paha County Agricultural Society members (clockwise, from left) Jason Rutar, Melvin Gibson, Monty Painter, Tammy Krueger and Jerry Mundorf will work throughout the next week to prepare the fairgrounds for the annual fair in Norden. The site nearly went up in the flames of the wildfire that ripped through Keya Paha County in mid-July. Charred remains of trees that burned in the Niobrara River canyon can be seen in the far background.

The quaint picket fence no longer surrounds a home on Jerry Mundorf's property a few miles south of Norden in Keya Paha County. Only ashes and rubble remain of Mundorf's house after the Region 24 Complex fire roared through the Niobrara River canyon in July. The rental cabins on his property, however, still stand.
